Landowners Win Class Cert. In Suit Over Exxon Pipeline Break

An Arkansas federal judge on Tuesday agreed to certify a class of landowners in a class action against Exxon Mobil Corp. over the 2012 rupture of its Pegasus pipeline that spilled more than 19,000 barrels, ruling that the plaintiffs have shown that common issues predominate over individual questions.

On Thursday, the Arkansas Supreme Court affirmed an August 27, 2010 Pine Bluff jury verdict against Ford Motor Company of $7,152,125, which includes 2.5 million in punitive damages for a vehicle rollover accident in Pine Bluff, Jefferson County, Arkansas.

Arkansas Couple Get $20M in Botched Brain Surgery Suit

A Pulaski County, Ark., jury has ordered a hospital to pay $20 million to a couple whose son had brain surgery done on the wrong side of his head.

The panel of seven men and five women took just under two hours to reach its unanimous verdict against Arkansas Children’s Hospital. The decision was 11-1 in favor of the award, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported.
