SENIOR PARTNER

Thomas W. Carey is the founding partner of the Clearwater firm of Carey & Leisure. Following the tragic loss of his wife, Joni, to a drunk driver, Mr. Carey served as the State Chairman for Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) in 1986 and was the Pinellas County President from 1984 to 1985. He continues to be actively involved in the organization and was co-founder of Remove Intoxicated Drivers (RID) in the Tampa Bay area.

Mr. Carey has been an adjunct professor of Trial Practice at Stetson University College of Law and has lectured on funeral home and cemetery malpractice, the Dram Shop Act, and other topics. Mr. Carey has litigated complex liability and medical issues in courts throughout West Florida and has been lead counsel in a large number of cases involving victims of drunk driving.

MANAGING PARTNER

Jodi Leisure is Board Certified in Civil Trial Law by the Florida Bar, and by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. Ms. Leisure received her law degree, magna cum laude, from Stetson University College of Law in 1999, her Masters in Business Administration from Stetson University in 1999, and her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, magna cum laude, from Palm Beach Atlantic College in 1989. She is the managing partner at Carey & Leisure.

Ms. Leisure is licensed to practice law in the State of Florida, and is a member of The Florida Bar, The American Association for Justice, The Florida Justice Association, the Million Dollar Advocates Forum, and National Board of Trial Advocacy. She was also featured in Florida Super Lawyers, which lists Florida’s outstanding attorneys in each practice area. She is the co-author of “A Conversation With Our Clients”.

While in law school, Ms. Leisure served as the supervising judicial intern in the Circuit Court for the Sixth Circuit and was an associate member of the Stetson Law Review. Ms. Leisure also received the Victor O. Wehle Trial Advocacy Award and the West Group Outstanding Scholastic Achievement Award.

Ms. Leisure uses her experience as a litigator and trial attorney to pursue claims for wrongful death and injuries related to motor vehicle accidents, premises liability and other negligent conduct.

PARTNER

Katherine Neal was born in San Antonio, Texas and grew up throughout the United States and overseas as an “Army Brat”. She learned the value of hard work and commitment to excellence from her father, a Brigade Commander and Colonel in the United States Army. Mrs. Neal received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcast Journalism from Penn State University in 2002 and her Juris Doctorate degree, cum laude, from Stetson University College of Law in 2004. Mrs. Neal is a Florida Board Certified Civil Trial lawyer. She is one of, and to our knowledge the youngest Board Certified Civil Trial Lawyer in Florida’s history.

While in law school, Mrs. Neal served as a judicial intern for County Court Judge Shawn Crane, and was certified by the Florida Supreme Court as a Judicial Intern for the Sixth Circuit State Attorney’s Office. She won the St. Petersburg Times Award for the Best Competition Paper and was a senior associate of The Stetson Law Review. Mrs. Neal also served as a Stetson Ambassador, wherein she assisted new law students as a mentor and adviser. Mrs. Neal began working as a law clerk for Carey & Leisure while still in law school and, upon graduation, became an attorney with the firm. She was made a Partner in January 2008. She is licensed to practice law in the State of Florida and focuses in the fields of personal injury, wrongful death, and funeral home and crematory malpractice.

Mrs. Neal is a co-author of a personal injury book entitled “A Conversation with Our Clients” and is also the host of a weekly radio show, “Lawyers with Purpose”, which airs every Friday at 11:30 am on “Inspiration” AM 1110.

Mrs. Neal and her husband are the proud parents of two young daughters. In her spare time, Mrs. Neal volunteers in the newborn nursery at her church, and also enjoys organizing social activities between preschoolers and senior citizens at a local assisted living facility.
